The Ship

The s/v Kelly Allen is a 37 foot O'Day center cockpit sloop.  A spacious, stately lady of the Sea, she can easily accommodate your needs while sailing off Southport.  The spacious center cockpit allows a relaxed atmosphere while enjoying the sites during your sail.  She has a galley and two heads and while we do not offer overnight accommodations, she has berths for six.

She was built in 1980, and after serving as a training ship for a sailing school in Florida was brought to Southport by the late Jay Harvey in 1996 to serve as a sailing charter.  She was acquired by Captain Bob Griffith in 2006.  Following tradition, she was christened the sailing vessel Kelly Allen on July 15, 2006 by her sponsor, Captain Bob's daughter Kelly Allen.  She was christened in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the Cape Fear River.  Standing on the bow of her namesake, Kelly Allen spoke the words

"Oh mighty rulers of the winds, through whose power our frail vessels traverse the wild and faceless deep, we implore you to grant this worthy vessel Kelly Allen the benefits and pleasures of your bounty, ensuring us of your gentle ministration according to our needs."

"I name this ship Kelly Allen and may she bring fair winds and good fortune to all who sail on her."

Join us on the s/v Kelly Allen for an unforgettable experience on the water.
